We spend hours doing laundry every week. Yet, we often labor in spaces that make doing laundry harder instead of easier. We’ve come up with some laundry room design ideas to simplify washing, drying and folding. When you know how to organize your laundry room, being there will feel like a pleasure instead of a chore.

How to Organize Your Laundry Room

Whether you have a cozy nook or a window-lit room, it can be hard to know where to start to maximize the space you have. Read on for 6 tips on how to organize your laundry room to make it not only more attractive, but more efficient.

Invest in Adjustable Shelving

Start with a place for all your laundry staples with adjustable shelving. Many units fit over front-loading machines while others go from floor to ceiling to accommodate everything from your iron to hampers. The beauty of adjustable shelving is that it’s one of those laundry room organization ideas that can be customized to your space.

Use Bins or Hampers to Separate with Style

Adjustable shelving is great but will require its own organization to maximize space and keep smaller items in order. Whether it’s identical wire baskets, bright cloth bins, or wooden crates these eye-catching options are a great solution for how to organize your laundry room. And don’t forget to label each one for a neat and unified look.

Create a Folding Station

If you have a front-loading washer and dryer utilize the empty space on top of your machines to create a built-in folding station. Installing a counter of plywood or any countertop material provides space to fold and stack clothing and linens and creates an instant custom look.

Utilize a Hideaway Laundry Cart

If your laundry space is snug rather than spacious, consider using a slim, hideaway cart to hold your supplies. These carts are designed to fit the gap in between your washer and dryer, making this one of those laundry room storage ideas ideal for smaller spaces.

Add a Laundry Drying Rack

This classic idea for how to organize your laundry room is fresh again with new designs. Install a towel holder on the underside of a laundry room shelf for a spot to hang a row of shirts. A wall-mounted drying rack saves even more space, while a foldable drying rack can hold numerous items and be stored away when not in use.

Use a Pegboard to Hang Items

All those little laundry items make it difficult to know how to organize your laundry room. A pegboard gives you the space to hang larger items like a broom or mop and use attractive baskets to hold smaller items like clothespins and dryer sheets. Mounting your pegboard on the back of your laundry room door is one of those laundry room hacks that save even more space.

We hope these tips on how to organize your laundry room make the chore of laundry a little more of a pleasure. Appliance Service Station is happy to be your laundry appliance repair service and can expertly assist you with any appliance need!

  1. It was really helpful when you explained that adjustable shelving can be customized to your space in your laundry room. When my wife and I first moved into this house, we realized pretty quickly that our laundry room didn’t have enough space for us to keep hampers and bins in the room. We have to keep the hampers in a different room. I think it would be a good idea for us to have some cabinets installed above the machines so that we can have some more storage space.
